AI, Retinus and Firefighters
Artificial intelligence technology has helped thousands of businesses, and individuals, over the past 30 years. AI advancement in technology helps to save lives. It also makes the careers of those individuals who put themselves in danger lower risk by reducing the likelihood that they may die in a serious accident. Some of the industries this technology is utilized in include law enforcement, security, the military, and firefighting. We will focus on the last career path, firefighting, for this article.
Most people would find entering a burning building intimidating and unnerving. Firefighters often experience difficulty seeing, hearing, and/or and determining what direction to go in while trying to find someone trapped in the midst of roaring flames. Time is the most important factor, not only when putting out the fire, but also while rescuing those trapped inside. Extended periods of time around combustion and fumes is not ideal for the human body, and often poses great health risks. The most common illness category in firefighters is cardiovascular. In fact, one of the largest reasons for loss of life among firefighters is sudden cardiac death.
Retinus’ technology was specifically designed to save those who risk their lives daily. We are developing the next generation of fusion software and hardware to deliver cutting edge tracking and health data analytics. Our smartwatch app can track health metrics, location/GPS, heart rate, VO2 max, step count, temp, and other pertinent metrics to keep an “eye” on our heroes. If anything is out of the ordinary, the app sends an alert to the command so they are aware of the situation and are able to either get that firefighter out safely, or get someone in to offer assistance in a timely manner. Not only that, but it can also detect any possible future irregularities. Our AI can potentially reduce firefighter fatalities by 60.5%, as well as significantly reduce the number of injuries.
Having health metrics available at all times will guarantee accountability and give those in the field peace of mind that someone always has their back. Firefighting is all about teamwork, and these watches are essentially another team member. Its job is to keep track of the wearer, detect any unusual activity, and keep you safe. Not to mention, having the option to send records directly to doctors , which can help diagnose or treat any issues that may arise due to the nature of the work.
Our founders, Bernard Mendez and Cory Perry, are former U.S. Army soldiers and understand not only teamwork, but the need for technology like this to protect those who put themselves out there. If you would like to know more about our watches and app solutions, please do not hesitate to reach out.
